Undo ending is the spatial intervention in St. Moritz Church for the extended
Lent season of 2022. It consists of ten video-sound works by Chilean
conceptual artist Carolina Pérez Pallares and a large-scale object
by German-Ecuadorian conceptual artist Benjamin Appel.
Carolina Pérez Pallares developed a work for the Moritzkirche that makes a
direct reference to the sounds of the organ. Sounds are fleeting and
can only be experienced directly. They are not physically tangible and
contrast with the static nature and permanence of the building. The simplest
abstraction of an organ would be to think of it as a bottle in the wind.
The sound and image recordings are arranged in the side aisles in such a way that, depending on the viewer's location, different sound compositions are created when walking through the church. In dialogue with the silence of the space, the sound arrangements can always be heard 10 minutes before the hour.
In the video work, we hear the natural primordial sound of the wind in the church interior, refracted by a bottle neck, while the space is otherwise dominated by the virtuosity of human singing and the church organ.
